Welcoming Drift: The Beginning of a New Journey at The Canine Hub

Introducing Drift to The Canine Hub: her first days, vet visit, and early training progress.

Welcoming Drift: The Beginning of a New Journey at The Canine Hub

We are thrilled to announce the newest addition to The Canine Hub family: Drift. Her arrival has brought an air of excitement and joy to our household. The carefully planned introductions went smoothly, and we are happy to share Drift’s initial experiences and progress with all of you.

The First Night: A Smooth Transition

Drift settled in wonderfully on her first night. She stayed in a crate beside my bed, providing her a sense of security and closeness. We went to bed at 10 pm, and by 10:30 pm, Drift was sound asleep. She woke up around 2:30 am for a quick trip outside, but soon after, she went back to sleep without any fuss. Impressively, she stayed dry overnight.

She’s already showing a fondness for the toy and the piece of vet bed that came with her puppy pack, which has certainly helped her feel more at home.

A Big Day Out: First Vet Visit

Drift had a significant milestone today with her first set of vaccinations at Acorn House Veterinary Hospital. She handled the visit like a champ and even managed to charm the receptionists with a few cuddles. However, we discovered that travelling in the van might require a bit more work, given the chorus of barks we encountered – a new adventure for both Drift and us.

Back home, Drift has been exploring the garden and the front room, enjoying her playtime and frequent naps. Her appetite is good, and we’re making sure to take her out to the garden regularly after meals, play, and naps, which has kept us accident-free indoors so far. Early days in toilet training, but it's a promising start.

Socialising and Training: Baby Steps

Today was another lovely day for Drift. She got to visit the field in the morning, where she met Laura, Phil, and Tracey, along with a few clients. Socialisation is key at this stage, and Drift is already making new friends.

Later, she enjoyed some playtime in the garden and a visit from Lorrie’s niece, providing ample opportunities for interaction and bonding. Drift ended the day back at the field, meeting more clients and becoming more accustomed to van travel. The short journeys seem to be paying off as she showed marked improvement today.

We also introduced her to a snuffle mat for the first time, and she thoroughly enjoyed her meal using it. This enrichment tool is fantastic for stimulating her senses and providing mental exercise.

Settling In: The Progress Continues

Drift is settling in well, with plenty of rest and no major play sessions with the other dogs yet. However, it’s clear that they’re getting along well, and it won't be long before playtime ensues. Despite one minor accident indoors – our fault for not paying attention while putting the bins out – Drift’s toilet training is progressing excellently.

We’re excited to share more updates on Drift’s journey with you. Follow The Canine Hub for regular “Pup-dates” on her progress and adventures.
